Born in Surrey, England, my love for make-up and art has been present for as long as I can remember. Mixing concoctions of conditioners, perfumes, talcum powder, and every other cosmetic product I could find in my mother’s bathroom, a mess may have been made but a passion was born that has only grown stronger with every beauty product and face I've come across since.
Fast-forward to my senior year of high school in Boulder, Colorado, and I found myself at a crossroads. Torn between pursuing my childhood dreams of becoming a make-up artist, and attending the university of my dreams to explore my other passion of Psychology, I kept my options open by enrolling at UCLA, bringing me to the land of beauty - Los Angeles - the perfect setting for a budding make-up enthusiast. Graduating with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Anthropology in 2016, it became more apparent than ever that this passion for make-up would only grow stronger until I embraced it head-on. I enrolled at the Make-Up Designory in Burbank, eager to solidify my cosmetic product and application techniques, and become a true professional in the field of artistry. I graduated in March 2017 after 392 hours of studying makeup artistry and hair styling for beauty and fashion, ready to put my skills to use.
I was lucky enough to quickly land a position as a Color Consultant at Sephora Century City. I immediately became Custom Makeover certified, giving me the opportunity to play with endless products and faces all day long. The year I spent working at Sephora was probably the most invaluable part of my beauty career thus far, as I got to try out thousands of products, become familiar with hundreds of brands, witness the plethora of queries and concerns that every woman and man of every skin color and type could throw at me, educate myself on ingredients and formulas, observe consumer buying patterns, understand the importance of branding, ponder about things I wanted to change in the industry, and most importantly ignited my passion for beauty product development and merchandising.
After some time at Sephora, I moved on to a position at a popular Santa Monica medical aesthetic practice called Skin by Lovely, as an Aesthetic Consultant, where I have been exposed to a whole different side of the beauty industry - medical aesthetics. During my time at SBL, I have had the opportunity to watch and learn what it to takes to run a successful small business, as well as really solidify my knowledge and interest in skincare.
This long journey, and the combination of these experiences finally brought me to the realization of my ultimate interest in the behind-the-scenes, business side of the beauty industry, as it perfectly blends both my creative and analytical sides. In July 2018, I enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising as a Professional Designation student studying Beauty Industry Merchandising & Product Development to gain a better understanding of where in the business side of the industry I could best lend my talents to. I have already learned so much in the short amount of time I have been there, and I am so excited to begin internships in my second quarter to gain even more experience so I can land the job of my dreams after I graduate in June 2018!
